Charlie – A Very Good Dog

Giving my dogs a happy environment, making them comfortable while making them pleasant to be around can be challenging, especially when it comes to taking care of their fur and skin. So, for our dogs I’ve made a traditional chemically free and gentle soap bar with Indian medicinal neem powder and lemongrass essential oil with the potent power of my garden’s rosemary bush.

I LOVE USING AN OLD FASHIONED DOG SHAMPOO WITH NEEM TREE OIL

Make Dog Bath Time Fast and Pleasent!

Often our dog bath time isn’t much fun for dogs or people. What I think dogs hate most about bath time – other than the hose with water – is how long it takes for us to bathe them and the perfumey smell of the soap we use.

The best thing about a shampoo bar made the old-fashioned way is that it doesn’t take as long for us to rinse the bubbles away once they’ve done their job.

The best things about my dog shampoo bar is that

  • dog’s don’t hate them smell
  • it mositurizes and doesn’t dry them out
  • it’s free of chemicals, perfumes, preservatives etc.
  • it relieves itch dog skin
  • it repels bugs, ticks and fleas
  • it is a very mild antibacterial
  • it is superfatted for extra moisture.
  • it is gentle
  • it uses neem, tea tree and lemongrass without leaving a residue for dogs to ingest.

WHY I STARTED MAKING THIS NEEM SHAMPOO BAR FOR MY DOG

I made this shampoo with my first dog Charlie in mind, He had allergies. If one flea bit him, his whole system would become allergic to everything. Shampooing him really helped but boy he hated it! He hated being wet and he hated the weird smells of the shampoos. So I needed a dog cleanser that rinsed easily, had no perfume, repelled biting insects, cleaned his long hair, soothed his skin and helped his skin heal from rashing, red, hot spots.

I made it a bar because bars are better for the environment requiring no unnecessary water or packaging, bars are more affordable – in tests they go much farther than liquid soap – bar soap is easy to wash off making bath time shorter and my dog happier

Soap is an age-old product, unlike modern chemical laden shampoo. For our dogs, I super fatted this soap, adding both Moroccan Argan Oil (good for our hair too) and the replenishing North American Jojoba after the saponification process. Doing this leaves the best oils to condition our dog’s skin. I added Neem Tree Powder and Rosemary to make the soap naturally antibacterial and antifungal while they also add a bit of texture to help with the wash. Lemongrass Essential Oil is a scent that dogs find calming and enjoy – without wanting to eat it- like a walk through the herb garden.

Great for dogs who have easily irritated or dry skin, who are prone to allergic reactions and skin infections, or who are exposed to mosquitoes, fleas and other biting bugs. Great for dogs who hate baths or chemical scents or perfumes. Also great for dog owner’s budgets.

Most shampoo bars for dogs aren’t made to be this conditioning or have all the great oils in them including Argan and jojoba. Also, while many manufacturers don’t tell you the ingredients in their dog shampoos, you know what is in this one. Neem isn’t in many shampoo bars for dogs yet. Called the tree of gold in India, it is used for many things including toothpaste, hair conditioner and insect repellent. Neem oil is too strong to use on dogs but using leaf powder in the soap allows us to benefit from Neem without risk of our dogs ingesting it – no eating the bar!
