Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Conditioner
I made this light weight apple cider vinegar hair conditioner especially for those of us who are trying to go more natural without sacrificing nice looking hair. It is excellent for natural shampoo methods, no-poo shampoos and old-fashioned shampoo bars free of synthetic detergents. It is a nice light shampoo that won’t weigh your hair down and can be used daily to achieve manageable and healthy hair. The conditioner works well as a leave in conditioner or a rinse out conditioner. This is a silicone free formulation that moisturizes and smoothes hair cuticles while providing mild detangling without build up.
Please note: October 2020: We have changed out bottles due to shortages from 4 oz to a white 6 oz bottle. The price reflect the size change but is the same per oz.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: smoothes hair cuticles making hair shine while counteracting the impact of hard water and high alkalinity. This conditioner is especially good for those using a no-poo hair cleansing method or washing their hair with natural high alkaline soaps using saponified oils ( like Dr. Bronner’s or my own lye-based shampoos). To learn more about Apple Cider Vinegar and hair, here is a good video by Green Beauty.
ALOE VERA: Is great for moisturizing hair and soothing scalp. Aloe Vera contains proteolytic enzymes which is thought to help hair grow. I distill my own rosemary water for use in this conditioner because it smells lovely and is great for hair health. In fact, one study found it works equally well for hair growth as Minoxidil after 6 months without Minoxidil’s side effect of an itchy scalp.
PRECIOUS OILS: Abyssinian Oil, Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil combined provide outstanding shine and protective qualities
NATURAL VEGETABLE GLYCERIN: Adds moisture to hair and protects hair from damage and dryness.
BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE is used in eco-certified products. This ingredients is approved by Whole Foods and is derived from rapeseed. It is as a wonderful hair conditioner that detangles, thickens hair while smoothing hair cuticles while reducing static.
The vegetable-based ester quat – Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride – increases hair shine and improves texture and is biodegradable.
Honeyquat improves the texture of hair and provides great moisture without weighing hair down, making it better for styling.
Panthenol is derived from vitamin B5. It acts as a natural lubricant to hair improving damaged hair and increasing shine, fullness and softness.
PROTEINS FOR HAIR CONDITIONING
I add protein because most people benefit from proteins in hair. Damaged hair absorbs protein when applied. This plugs up and repairs small indents and frayed areas of hair smoothing the hair out. I chose two proteins to suit most hair types. The small particle protein, Hydrolyzed Silk Protein tends to agree with many hair types and resists buildup. Hydrolyzed Oat Protein is a larger protein and helps with damaged hair. I don’t use too much in this conditioner as only so much protein can be absorbed by hair, depending on hair type.
Sea Buckthorn is a healing oil that smoothes and restores hair.
I use the essential oil blend of Rosemary, Rosewood, Rose Geranium and Lavender for their therapeutic benefits, It also smells lovely.
