A scent full of love, memory & cinnamon steam. My Horchata Soap smells just like a batch of homemade horchata, warm rice milk, real cinnamon and clove, creamy vanilla, and a little dusting of cocoa. Inspired by the comforting Mexican drink, this bar is cooling on a hot day and heartwarming on a cold one. Whether you are lathering up in the bath or washing your hands after baking, Horchata Soap brings you back to simpler, sweeter times.
Like all my bars, Horchata Soap is superfatted for extra gentleness. That means it is packed with skin-loving oils that moisturize instead of stripping. Though each bar may naturally lose a little water as it cures, it does not affect how long it lasts. Most Horchata Soap bars weigh between 4.5 to 5oz and only get better with time.
The heart of my Horchata Soap is olive oil, one of the most luxurious and skin-nourishing oils around. While some exotic oils boast similar benefits, none match the silky creaminess and gentle cleanse of good old olive oil. It is timeless for a reason.
Coconut oil gives my Horchata Soap its bubbly, effective cleanse. But too much coconut can dry the skin, so I pair it carefully with castor oil for balance. Castor helps make the bubbles creamy and lasting and keeps the bar from feeling too harsh. It is all in the blend!
Palm oil helps make Horchata Soap hard, long-lasting, and lathery. But not just any palm oil will do. I use organic and RSPO-certified palm oils sourced from CFC Inc. (Columbus Vegetable Oils), who are USDA-certified. According to the World Wildlife Fund, responsible palm oil is a better solution than switching to lesser-known alternatives that can be even more damaging to the planet.
Beeswax gives Horchata Soap a little extra something. It helps the bar last longer and gives the lather a dreamy, creamy finish. I have tested vegan options, but they did not feel quite right or used too many lab-made ingredients. I source my beeswax from local beekeepers who care deeply for their hives, and supporting them means supporting pollinators and the environment.
To create the signature experience, I add real rice milk, ground cinnamon, clove, natural vanilla, and a pinch of cocoa powder. It’s sweet and spicy, comforting and uplifting. I also include extra skin-loving oils after the saponification process so their full benefits remain intact.
Many of my soaps use only essential oils, and I always test every fragrance personally. If it gives me a headache, I do not use it. For Horchata Soap, I wanted something that felt as nostalgic as the drink itself, sweet, creamy, earthy, and oh-so comforting.
