Dog Salve for Nose and Paws

Description

A Dog Salve for Wet Noses and Comfy Paws.

I’ve used the best oils and waxes for protection, re-moisturizing and healing a dog’s dry nose, and keeping dogs’ paw pads supple, healthy, and comfortable.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Food Grade Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Yellow Beewax, Evening Primrose Oil, Castor Oil, Lanolin Wax, Organic Sesame Seed Oil, and Vit. E,

My dog Gidget recently had a stroke and then was diagnosed with cancer. She was put on prednisone but her nose got very, very dry. This helped her immensely. I suggest putting a few dabs on your dog’s nose and paws when they are about to eat or go on a walk. This distracts them from licking it all off. If your dog suffers from hyperkeratosis or its nose is very dry with built-up dry skin, try placing a warm, wet washcloth on your dog’s nose for as long as it will let you and then apply the salve.

Is the Salve Safe if my Dog Licks Off?

Yes, my Nose and Paw Salve for Dogs is safe for a dog to ingest.  I use approved ingestible oils. Also, because I know my customers love their dogs at least as much as I do, I purchase the highest quality oils from a well-respected American vendor.  This vendor has been in business for more than 2 years and has on-site labs using AOCS and ASTM testing methods to ensure they carry pure and unadulterated oils.  Their oils come directly from the source and are always fresh.

My dog salve is free of essential oils, palm oil, preservatives, soya oil, or emulsifiers. I do not include essential oils as the dog salve will probably be ingested and essential oils are too strong to be safely ingested. I also do not include palm oils as I don’t think palm oil is good for anyone to eat (it makes me feel sort of ill). With no water added, preservatives and emulsifiers are not needed. I felt there were better oils than soya to pick for my precious dog (and yours!)

INGREDIENTS IN DETAIL:

  • Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, especially lauric acid and linoleic acid. Lauric acid, according to this scientific review works as an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. Lauric acid has  “a strong ability to destroy gram-positive bacteria, especially S. aureus, fungi such as C. Albicans, and viruses including vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), and visna virus (VV).”
  • Cocoa Butter is safe for dogs, unlike chocolate. It is rich in chemical compounds that  help plants resist fungi, bacteria, and plant virus infections.) Cocoa Butter may have protective qualities against sun damage and inflammation.
  • Unrefined Shea Butter provides soothing and healing to dogs’ noses and paws. It may help to reduce soreness, redness, swelling, and itching of damages caused by dehydration and weather.
  • Yellow Beeswax helps create a barrier to prevent further loss of moisture while providing the natural healing power of beeswax.
  • Evening Primrose Oil’s high level of Omega-6 oil improves moisture and healing of skin.
  • Castor Oil is a great choice for a dog Salve as I wanted the salve to have better than average staying power. Castor Oil is a thick oil that adds strength to a salve.  It’s rich in a monounsaturated fatty acid humectant which increases moisture retention.
  • Lanolin Wax is the magic ingredient in a great Dog Salve as it needs to stay on the nose and paws for as long as possible. Lanolin wax not only helps seal in moisture and protect the nose and paws from the elements but also stays in place.
  • Organic Sesame Seed Oil
  • Vit E.
