My Patchouli Lotion contains two ingredients that make it uniquely awesome; Borage Oil and 100% pure Patchouli Essential Oil

Topical Borage Oil offers numerous benefits for skin health.

Patchouli Benefits for Skin and Mood

Patchouli has a distinct, earthy scent that make me feel positive and safe. For me, it is earthy, natural, woodsy, and herbaceous with an element of muskiness. I appreciate that it doesn’t have any powdery or synthetic elements.  I find the scent of my Patchouli lotion very satisfying.  I continue to like this scent over time and don’t get tired of it. I love that it continues to smell good to me even after long exposure.  And unlike synthetic fragrances, it does not give me a headache.

Keep in mind, not everyone likes the smell of  Patchouli.  Actually, this is a gross understatement, some people passionately hate the smell of this essential oil, in fact in a forum someone wrote he hates patchouli as if it had “burned his ranch, shot his dog and stole his bible”!

If you enjoy the scent of patchouli as much as I do you will be happy to learn that Patchouli offers other beneficial and unique characteristics. It:

• Is one of the few essential oils that improves with age. I found this to be true. It also improves as it is exposed to air, so while the first sniff of patchouli might not be exactly what you want, it mellows after a few minutes on the skin,
• Mixes well with other scents and makes other essential oils last longer
• Serves as an excellent base for other scents.
• Used to relieve depression and stress and as a calming influence in aromatherapy (no surprise to me since it has that effect on me). Also, it is found to balance appetite and improve sexual interest!

• Has been used traditionally as a medicine in both China and India

Patchouli is very clearly the dominant scent in my Patchouli Lotion but I’ve accented it with several other essential oils including Frankincense, Myrrh, Amyris (also known as West Indian Sandalwood), Orange , and Vetiver. I add Frankincense essential oil not just for its great and complimentary scent. Studies suggest that it possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce swelling and pain in the body. Furthermore, it has been found to have antioxidant effects, protecting the skin from damage caused by free radicals. The oil also exhibits potential antimicrobial activity, making it useful in preventing and treating certain infections. Lotion with Olive Oil and Shea Butter

I balance the Borage Oil’s Omega-6 level with Olive Oil since it brings a healthy amount of Omega-3. I round this out with Shea butter which is also a superb butter on its own but works with the other two to lock in the healing and Moisturizing power of the three.
