Description
New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap
Desert Bloom • Bright • Gently Exfoliating
Inspired by the land I call home, New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap is a small-batch desert treasure. Made with real prickly pear juice and seeds harvested right from my front yard, this soap captures the vibrant beauty of New Mexico’s iconic cactus fruit, bright pink, slightly sweet, and just a little wild. The seeds offer gentle exfoliation, while the blend of rich oils and beeswax creates a creamy, lasting lather that leaves skin soft and refreshed. It’s a celebration of the Southwest in every bar.
Whether you’ve wandered the high desert or just dream of it, this bar brings the scent and spirit of New Mexico into your daily ritual.

What Makes It “Prickly Pear”?
Prickly pear isn’t just a pretty fruit, it’s packed with skin-loving vitamins and natural exfoliants. I use both the juice and the seeds for a bar that feels nourishing and lightly scrubby. The texture is satisfying without being harsh, and the scent? Sweet, fresh, and just earthy enough to feel grounded. New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap is your desert spa moment, right at home.
Ingredients in New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap
Saponified Oils of Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Organic & Sustainable Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Organic & Sustainable Palm Kernel Oil, Beeswax, Prickly Pear Juice, Prickly Pear Seeds, and Fragrance (phthalate-free).
Why Olive Oil Still Reigns
As always, I start with olive oil. It’s deeply conditioning, creamy, and creates a luxurious lather without softening the bar. While fancier oils exist, few can match olive oil’s balance of quality and cost, and that’s why it’s the foundation of almost all my soaps.
Coconut Oil = Big, Happy Bubbles
Coconut oil brings the lather and gives the bar its cleansing power and firmness. But too much can be drying, so I carefully balance it with softer, nourishing oils to create a perfect, gentle cleanse.
My Stance on Palm Oil
Yes, I use palm, and I use it thoughtfully. Both palm oil and palm kernel oil in this New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap are certified organic and sustainable, purchased from responsible suppliers. I believe that supporting the existing sustainable palm industry is better than shifting demand to oils with less oversight and even greater environmental impacts. You can read more about my sourcing on the blog.
Castor Oil = The Creamy Secret
A little castor oil goes a long way. It creates creamy, conditioning bubbles and makes the lather smoother and more luxurious. I never skip it, it’s a quiet hero in every recipe.
Why I Still Use Beeswax
Beeswax hardens the bar, extends its life, and adds a silky texture that’s hard to match. While I’ve explored vegan options, I keep coming back to beeswax because of its unmatched performance and my commitment to sourcing it from small, local beekeepers who treat their hives with care and respect.
Fragrance That Respects You
This bar is scented with a phthalate-free fragrance that complements the natural notes of the prickly pear. If I ever use fragrance instead of essential oil, I test it personally. If it gives me a headache, it doesn’t go in my shop. Period.
If you’re craving something uniquely Southwestern, or you just love a gentle exfoliating soap that’s as beautiful as it is effective, New Mexico Prickly Pear Soap is for you. Handmade, homegrown, and rooted in place, it’s desert simplicity at its finest.
